Watching Jimmy: "Humanitarian" Advises Hamas On Prisoner Exchanges

December 22, 2008 by Justin View Comments

From Arutz Sheva:

Former United States President Jimmy Carter reported that he advised Syrian-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal on what price to demand from Israel for the release of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted more than two years ago. He said that Hamas is “relatively satisfied with the status quo.”

I cannot believe Jimmy Carter hasn’t been called out on his pro-terrorist bias.  Has he advised Israel on what to demand for the hundreds of terrorists they’ll likely release to get Shalit’s body back (God forbid)?  I know Jimmy gets a lot of Saudi funding, but I’d be really curious to see what other foreign entities contribute to The Carter Center.

Carter, Gore, Kerry join DNC speaker list
By Sara Burnett, Rocky Mountain News

Jimmy Carter, John Kerry and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley will be among the speakers at next week’s Democratic National Convention, organizers announced today.

Article Continues… (Rocky Mountain News)

While I’m not a fan of any of these guys, it really bugs me that Jimmy Carter is still getting that “elder statesman” level of respect. He was an awful President, he’s anti-Israel, and he’s funded by the Saudis. Where’s the credibility?

Carter Takes Up New Fight Railing Against Georgia Dams
By AP Staff Writer

. . . the 83-year-old stood before a squeaky microphone in the farming hamlet of Oglethorpe, assailing a plan to build three dams to provide water for drought-stricken Georgia, freshly picking a fight he won three decades ago as governor.

I’m just not seeing Jimmy’s gripe here. People need water, the Flint River can provide it. What’s the problem? Does he hate Georgia as much as he hates Israel or something?

MIDEAST: YES TO PALESTINIAN STATE,NO TO ISRAEL’S RECOGNITION

Hamas accepts the establishment of a Palestinian state in the Territories occupied by Israel in 1967, but will not recognise the state of Israel, Hamas leader in exile Khaled Meshaal said today in Damascus.

So, I see that meeting with Jimmy accomplished a lot, eh?

Actually, I’m wondering what the angle is, as Carter is saying Hamas is willing to recognize Israel, but their story is oviously different. Did Jimmy get played?

He should've stayed on the peanut farm: Jimmy Carter visits Hamas

April 14, 2008 by Justin View Comments

You’d have to be under a rock to miss this, but just in case, here are some links:

  • State Dept to Jimmy Carter: Don’t Meet with Hamas
  • Obama declines to criticize Carter on Hamas
  • Carter Defends Upcoming Meeting With Hamas in Syria
  • ABC News interview with Dhimmi Carter

  • Israel snubs Carter and declines security help

Honestly, I’m not surprised that Israel would be upset about Carter visiting the Hamas leadership. I also think that anyone who wants to discuss peace with a terrorist organization shouldn’t expect that organizations enemies to back him up. There are, however, a few things that concern me:

1) From the Reuters article:

Another source described the snub as an “unprecedented” breach between the Israeli Shin Bet and the U.S. Secret Service, which protects all current and former U.S. presidents, as well as Israeli leaders when they visit the United States.

Carter included the southern Israeli town of Sderot on his itinerary. The area is often hit by rockets from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and one of the sources described the lack of Shin Bet assistance there as particularly “problematic”.

Is this crazy old man causing tension between Israel and the U.S.? If so, and he’s not an official U.S. representative, whose behalf is he acting on? What’s his motivation?

2) Though only a minor side story in this whole thing, Barack Obama’s lack of condemnation shows which side of the fence he’s on. I only hope voters are paying attention.

Israel tells Jimmy Carter: Your ‘help’ is not welcome
By Israel Today Staff Writer

Israel this week issued a formal rejection of a recent offer by former US President Jimmy Carter and former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to mediate a ceasefire between the Jewish state and the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip.

Article Continues… (Israel Today)

This may be one of the smarter things Israel has done in a while. Never let the friend of your enemy mediate; you’ll just get screwed in the end. I’m glad Israel is finally realizing this.

Is Bible Teacher Jimmy Carter an Old-Fashioned Jew-Hater? But How Can a True Christian…

November 16, 2007 by Justin View Comments

By Phyllis Chesler

Is Jimmy Carter an anti-Semite? Even some of his critics concede that his biased views about Israel might not necessarily rise to the level of Jew-hatred. Surely, one can be critical of the Jewish state without necessarily being a Jew-hater, right?

Well – not exactly. Seven years ago I began writing about the ways in which anti-Zionism is indeed today’s “new anti-Semitism” and about how left-liberal progressives in the west were increasingly, perhaps unwittingly, allied with Islamist propagandists and terrorists in their joint betrayal of both the truth and the Jews.

Full Article (netwmd.com)

I’m still unsure if Jimmy is an anti-semite or if he’s just trying to appease the Saudi’s that fund him; one of those “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” things. What do you all think?

Rice confers with Carter and Clinton

October 27, 2007 by Justin View Comments

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has sought the advice of former US presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton ahead of a planned Middle East peace parley scheduled to take place in Annapolis, Maryland, in November or December.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Saturday that Rice met with Carter this week. The two reportedly discussed the peace talks Carter brokered between Israel and Egypt in the late 1970s. The White House called the meeting with Carter positive and “to the point.”
